We walked down toward the boardwalk of sorts and stopped for lunch at The Magpie Cafe. It is supposed to have the best fish and chips around. They were wonderful. It was a fancier place than I expected inside. They offered about 10 different varieties of fish to make into fish and chips. Everyone was starving, so the food was devoured.
Then we headed toward the water. We stopped at a stand selling Crabs, which was quite interesting to the boys.
The boys started out with their crocs on, but we quickly took them off. I waded into the water with the boys fully clothed expecting to get wet up to my knees, well my jeans were soaked! At least I brought a change of clothes for the boys. The boys had so much fun. I held onto Oliver's hand as the waves would have knocked him over. The North Sea was cold, but it did not seem to phase the boys. However, Grandpa took off Lily's shoes as she seemed interested in the water, but she did NOT like putting her feet in it. I held her for a little bit, but then she went back to the Grandparents. This activity lasted about 25 minutes or so and we decided to head up, which is a really good thing as the tide came in VERY quickly and we would have been under water.
Then we headed up the 199 steps to the Whitby Abbey, which overlooked the North Sea. It was breathe taking up there. We were in a graveyard behind the church at the top with the boys and as we were heading out I turned around to see Oliver with his pants down peeing on a tombstone. I was not close enough to stop him, but we had a discussion about places he is allowed to pee and places he is not allowed to pee. I thank Michael as he has taught them to pee outside on the trees back in PA. We are in the country, so what is the big deal right? I have to admit I worked hard to hold back the laughter.
We headed back down to catch the train back home. I think we should have spent the night as it took 2 1/2 hours each way by train. Oliver and Lily became quite restless on the way home.
